The article is devoted to substantiating team building as a tool for developing leadership competence of future border guard officers.
Leadership competence of a future border guard officer is considered by the author as an integrative professional and personal characteristic that reflects the ability to organize the activities of a unit, exercise managerial influence on subordinates, make responsible decisions, and ensure the effective performance of official duties. The main tasks of team building are defined as follows: building trust within the team, fostering responsibility for collective results, developing the ability for collective decision-making, and cultivating leadership qualities.
The idea is expressed about the expediency of interpreting leadership as a process of organizing and coordinating individual and collective efforts aimed at achieving a common goal. It functions as a dynamic mechanism of managerial influence through which a leader motivates subordinates to act in accordance with defined priorities and tasks. In small teams whose activities are associated with an increased level of risk, the significance of leadership increases substantially, as the effectiveness of task performance largely depends on the leader’s ability to assess risks in a timely manner and make well-considered decisions.
The author notes that the use of team-building technologies in the training of future officers contributes not only to the development of teamwork skills but also to the formation of key components of leadership competence. First, team building promotes the development of communication skills necessary for effective unit management. Second, it fosters trust and mutual support among team members, which is an essential condition for the effective functioning of military units. Third, the performance of team tasks contributes to the development of responsibility for collective results, which is an important element of the professional responsibility of a future officer. Fourth, team-building exercises create conditions for identifying and developing the leadership potential of cadets, since during the performance of group tasks situations arise in which cadets can demonstrate organizational abilities and initiative. Thus, the use of team-building technologies contributes to the comprehensive development of the future officer’s personality and to the formation of his or her leadership competence.
Key words: leadership competence, future border guard officers, leadership, team building, educational process, higher military educational institution, development of leadership competence.
