The article examines the features of socio-pedagogical support for the resocialization of convicts in penitentiary institutions. The relevance of the topic is determined by the need to increase the effectiveness of the social adaptation process of persons serving sentences, as well as to reduce recidivism through creating conditions for their successful reintegration into society after release. Resocialization is considered as a complex socio-pedagogical process aimed at restoring socially acceptable forms of behavior, forming positive value orientations, developing social competencies, and preparing convicts for their return to the social environment. For a long time, the traditional model of sentence execution was mainly focused on isolating the offender from society, which does not fully correspond to modern international standards for the treatment of prisoners. It is emphasized that effective resocialization should involve a comprehensive impact on the individual through a system of educational, pedagogical, psychological, and social measures.
The role of socio-pedagogical support is revealed as an important tool for promoting the personal development of convicts, forming legal awareness, fostering a responsible attitude toward one’s own behavior, and developing readiness for a law-abiding lifestyle. The main directions of such activity are identified, including educational training, social and educational work, psychological support, and preparation for release. Particular attention is paid to the specific features of the resocialization of different categories of convicts, including women and juveniles, which require consideration of specific socio-psychological factors.
The study has established that the effectiveness of resocialization largely depends on the comprehensive organization of social and educational work in penitentiary institutions aimed at developing social skills, forming legal awareness, and creating conditions for the further social adaptation of individuals after release. It is concluded that socio-pedagogical support is an important component of modern criminal-executive policy that contributes to the successful reintegration of convicts into society.
Key words: resocialization of convicts, socio-pedagogical support, penitentiary system, penitentiary institutions, social and educational work, social adaptation, juvenile convicts, female convicts, social competencies.
