The article examines the issue of motivation for change as a key psychological condition for the resocialization of convicts during their term of imprisonment. The paper presents the results of a theoretical analysis of scientific approaches to resocialization and an empirical study of the characteristics of motivation for change in inmates, depending on the length of their sentence. It was established that motivation for change is multicomponent in nature and undergoes transformation under the influence of isolation conditions, life experience, and the subjective perception of the future. Differences were identified in the structure of motivational factors between convicts with sentences of up to 5 years and those with more than 5 years, which substantiates the need for differentiated psychological intervention within the framework of resocialization programs.
Key words: motivation for change, resocialization, convicts, personal resources, psychological factors.
